|Welcome to Vox Clamantis
Vox Clamantis' purpose is to provide you with Job Search Resources that you might not find elsewhere. We have quite a bit of information and will be researching and adding more. Do yourself a big favor and take the time to thoroughly explore this site.
Unfortunately, as you might have already found out, when it comes to determining which job search techniques work the best, there is a lot of bad information out there. In an economy like this one, every job search technique is a low-percentage shot. However, some of them are higher, low-percentage shots than the others.
In our efforts to synthesize and sift through we endeavor to make sure that the job search techniques which we advocate really work in real world situations and that the resources we list provide accurate information. What we have is stuff that may not work every time but still works better than the other stuff. Focusing on these is what will shorten the time you'll be out of work.
Unfortunately, when someone loses their job, they often lose much more than just their job. They can lose their home, their savings, their medical coverage, their credit rating, their cars. Job loss often creates a need for some type of social services that extend way beyond just your job search activities.
Therefore, we have provided links to some valuable resources that you might find useful in some of those other areas in this difficult time.
Currently, there are approximately 40,000,000 unemployed people in the United States and the number is growing steadily. Only about 15,000,000 of them receive unemployment benefits. 25,000,000 Americans either failed to qualify for benefits, have already rolled off unemployment, are recent college graduates, returning veterans, are disabled or senior workers trying to re-enter the workplace, have taken some kind of under-employment or have simply given up. Over 400,000 workers file first-time claims for unemployment benefits EVERY WEEK. To put that in perspective for you, that's more than every man, woman and child in both Salt Lake City, UT and Augusta, GA. Those laid off back in 2008 have rolled off of unemployment at the same rate minus the negligible impact of new job creation. Keep in mind that, the American workforce is only 157 million people. Over 4,000,000 families have lost their homes through foreclosure. Many more have been evicted. Our purpose is to try to represent these unemployed workers and their families as well as those who anticipate becoming unemployed..
These people didn't lay themselves off. They didn’t export their jobs. They didn't create this situation. Unfortunately, help is NOT on the way in time. So, once again, the American People are going to have to rise to the occasion and get the job done themselves.
This isn't just another job site. We are offering you an opportunity to participate in what we hope will become a force for positive change. In the meantime, we have provided some links that we feel you will find both unusual as well as useful. The more time you spend exploring our site the more likely you will be to find some useful tidbit.
We are not connected, nor do we have any obligation, to any political party, political candidate or corporation And, although we are new and small, we are dreamers and a work in progress.
